Something good on telly?
From the Jazzwise blog:
- Jazz Thing: next month sees the airing of a new jazz show on Channel 4 called It’s a Jazz Thing presented by Branford Marsalis. In the show, produced by the people behind Jazz on 3, Branford talks to a range of contemporary jazz musicians in New York, Chicago, Paris, London and Norway exploring new directions and styles. It’s a bit Janet and John at times and Branford has picked up brother Wynton’s habit of lecturing people. But that said it’s great seeing people like Bugge Wesseltoft and Arve Henriksen on TV and there’s some tantalising clips of the Chicago Underground Trio and Ken Vandermark among others with rare glimpses of clubs such as the Velvet Lounge and the Empty Bottle in Chicago and Small’s in New York. Set your VCRs for 13 November at 7.30pm.
I might even condescend to watch telly that night, though it clashes with Sam Rivers and Matthew Bourne at the London Jazz Festival so I guess I’ll just set the vid…
