Sunrise, Barbican

Out for a rare evening together with Is to the Barbican to watch F.W. Murnau’s Sunrise soundtracked live by Lambchop. I’d first seen Sunrise 10 or so years ago on television and was struck, like so many, by its visual poetry. The second viewing didn’t disappoint nor did Lambchop’s alt country/rock accompaniment, though the marriage of contemporary American music to German 1930s expressionism took a few moments to reconcile. On the journey there we listened to miserabilist Tindersticks and I was struck by the similarity of Lambchops style to the English group.
