Summer holiday listening
I thank Stereolab, Studio One Rockers, Studio One Soul, Kraftwerk and Neil Young for their music on our summer holiday this year – much appreciated. Track of the holiday would have to be either Lennie Hibbert’s Village Soul or Neil Young’s Heart Of Gold/Old Man – probably the former. It’s a marvellous instrumental reggae tune, full of sunny pleasure spelt out by cheerful vibes and warbling organ, girded by bubbling bass and a clattering, shambolic, but intensely propulsive chickenshack rhythm. Joy.
