I don't know the Beatnigs stuff, but loved the DHoH album and the collaboration with Mr Burroughs - in particular The Winter Of The Long Hot Summer, a chilling, elegant and weary indictment of the Kuwait war. I just found there were too many 'na-na-na, wave your hands in the air' type tracks in the concert and when he got serious he was mostly inaudible. Levelling accusations of being bland is probably grossly unfair, I'd need to check out the most recent albums. But I should say that my response is NOTHING to do with the fact every time I tried jumping in the air I couldn't keep time at all and seemed to go down when everyone else went up...

I hadn't actually heard any Spearhead before that evening, though I was acquainted with the Disposable Heroes and the earlier Beatnigs. It wouldn't be what I'd usually listen to, but the gig had a nice atmosphere and the times when the whole crowd was jumping up and down, dancing, were a real pleasure.

As for it being bland(er) - having now heard Home, it seems a fair enough continuation to me. It's Franti's charisma that really drives it along.
