Fluxion: Resonance

Damn, but that Konstantinos Soublis aka Fluxion pushes some fine (generally) one word titles. Taste some of these:

Lark…

Largo…

Atlas…

Cyclops Machine…

Opaque…

The above are all from Vibrant Forms I, I don’t rate the titles from Vibrant Forms II so much, but he gets right back on track with his first release under the moniker outside the Basic Channel stable:

Field I…

Coast…

Plain…

These are titles to float into, roll around the tongue, feel… I wonder whether I’d have such a strong reaction if it weren’t for being submerged so deeply at times in the music – who knows? I never will, at least til my memory becomes fog-bound in silence at the last. I’m hoping to interview him sometime in the not too distant future, I wonder whether I’ll be able to write anything interesting, I’m certainly tongue-tied and prematurely silent after a brief exchange of emails with Jon Hassell – this, despite listening intently (on and off) to his music for more than a decade…

I’ve been writing this blog for quite a lot longer than three years and now I’m finally getting round to writing something in the About page. But what to write? Oh well, if you check the category listings you’ll see what I cover. It’s a ragtag assortment of bits and bobs, anything that catches my fancy really. Unsurprisingly, much of that is music. Both K. Soublis’ 1st and 2nd Vibrant Forms are excellent. However, I will say that VF2 is a bit more cohesive overall. Extremely good.

He also releases as Silex, Unsquared Mode, etc. on his own label: Vibrant.

If you’re not already familiar with, I highly suggest you check out Rod Modell’s work otherwise known as Deepchord.

Hello Christopher – I wrote this post almost two years ago and you comment on it on a day that I was listening to Fluxion for the first time in quite a while. I have the Silex album though wasn’t familiar with Unsquared Mode. I almost interviewed him, but never quite got past a brief long distance telephone conversation with him. I love his three albums as Fluxion, not so sure about the Silex album though. Oh and yes I’m familiar with Deepchord who I quite like, but not as much as the Chain Reaction stuff.
