Luminous blue sky
I was called into the boss’s office this afternoon and informed that she would be making me redundant. The not entirely unexpected news left me feeling strange, optimistic and sad. I swam at lunchtime and went home. Darkness fell. I walked to collect Amy and Gabriel from their after-school club at 5. The sky was a luminous, post-dusk blue scudded with clouds and tinged with pink. The half moon faded in and out of view.
I’m often unsure what music to choose from the vast selection on my iPod (I’m an album enthusiast and find the random function too random). I didn’t have any hesitation this time. The only album Scott Walker released in the 80s - Climate Of Hunter, all 30 minutes 57 seconds of it - was a perfect accompaniment to the strangeness of the sky and the day.
