Albert King to Captain Beefheart

So I’m listening to Albert King and Howling Wolf, Elmore James and Muddy Waters and so on. The listenign prompts the tracing of an inevitable arc towards Captain Beefheart. I know only 3 albums by the great man: Clear Spot, The Spotlight Kid and Trout Mask Replica. All are brilliant, one of them something else again and further from the known than the other two. Salutary to hear the congruence and divergence between the King and Wolf and co and the Captain. Representative of so much creative, fruitful plundering of black music. Suits my mood too.

I PLAYED TROUT MASK REPLICA WHEN IT WAS FIRST RELEASED, ALSO SAFE AS MILK, ETC. I WAS ON LARGE AND MAJOR MARKET FM RADIO FROM 1968 UNTIL LAST YEAR! GOT TIRED, AND RETIRED EARLY.
RECENTLY, I DOWNLOADED TONS OF BEEFHEAR STUFF FROM KAZAA!
THEY GOT IT!
