More lovely CD packaging
The following are a couple of minimal techno reissues by Mika Vainio, one half of Pan Sonic, under the pseudonyms Tetra and Ø. The label is Sähkö Recordings and you can see from the first image that the CDs come in card envelopes. These envelopes are sealed and, rather like Burnt Friedman’s Nonplace releases, it’s almost impossible not to damage the packaging a little in order to get at the CDs. This imposes a sense of transgression from the get-go which is both troubling and strangely enjoyable. They’re deliciously put together, the sepia image on the inner sleeve of the Ø (third image below) is particularly beautiful. There’s clearly some influence from pharmaceutical/scientific imagery on the Tetra with its vector images of pills, microscopes, etc.

Finally, the latest release from the Italian rock/anti-rock group Sinistri comes in a very attractive budget sleeve. I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, but I’m looking forward to doing so.
