*E/I* is not folding because of the Web but because Bergstein is a dick as a businessman. Query his writers and editors and see what eventuates. This is his second failed venture (the first being *i/e*, on progrock) and shorter-lived than the first. Distributors disliked him, musicians disliked him, advertisers disliked him, and the writers disliked him, many abandoning ship after only a couple issues. Abetting his spin is not exactly a service, gentlemen. What is needed is a human being at the helm of a few music mags, not some despoliating chump. Good-bye *E/I* and good riddance. Read *Signal To Noise* for the same genre in better form.

Agreed - non-format's design was playful, often elegant in a not too self-consciously contemporary way and you never quite knew what they would do next. The left-field design complemented without getting in the way of the content. I intend to do a quick appraisal of the new design format, but I'm not exactly overwhelmed on first impression...

Note-to-self: "Less IS more"... keep the ethos as it was

Never heard of E/I (do I really have the time to do more than scan through The Wire even) but like the name.

I, very much like you, regret the time when The Wire was more than just a magazine, it was so wonderfully appealing visually that I used to wait for new issues with as much expecation about what they would look like as what they would feature. Some of the very organic oletters turning into plants things especially got me totally fascinated...
