Set in the deserted streets and parks of South London, Valdes' oil paintings have a quiet anxiety that undermines these otherwise serene and peaceful urban landscapes. In addition to these photo-realistic paintings Valdes is exhibiting a series of large scale collages constructed miraculously of magazine and newspaper cuttings. Depicting picturesque and familiar park views, they form a "countryside" idyll constructed from urban detritus.
Covandonga Valdes studied at Chelsea College of Art and the Slade University College. She has exhibited both in group and solo shows extensively in Spain, England and the Czech Republic. |
